Their relationship has been exposed, and now their lives are changed forever.
For Cadence Miller, the fast track to adulthood proves intimidating and frustrating. She’s a little girl lost—abandoned by her parents and uncertain of her future. She doesn’t think she “fits” anywhere. She’s eighteen. She wants to be older. And the result is both comical and heartbreaking.
Mark Connelly will do anything to provide Cadence a stable, loving home—to be her protector. But he’s just as broken and lost, and his heart won’t let go of his past so easily. He knows he must share his secret with Cadence. And he hopes his revelation won't tear them apart. He hopes it will draw them closer, and make their love better.
Amanda's review for the first book Good and Better
Good - 5 Stars.
Where do I start with this book? Well let's start with Cadence Miller, your average church going God loving teen, until that one night, that night that changed her forever. She goes to a party, gets high on cocaine, and tries to rob a convenience store. Which in turn gets her stuck in juvie. Cadence is then shunned by the people she thought were her friends, and her parents have not forgiven her. She's out on the side of the road picking up trash when she meets this guy, in his fresh converse kicks, Cadence is drawn to him but has to get back to her life in juvie with the mean police officer who doesn't like Cadence.
Mark Connelly, starts his new job as a high school math teacher, and who happens to walk into his class that first day of school? None other than the girl he saw on the side of the road, Cadence Miller, and he's drawn to her but she's his student they can't possibly have a relationship right?
Good takes you on a journey between doing what's right and what's right with you. I loved this book in so many ways because Summer shows you not only the trials you have in doing something against code, but the backlash you receive from the one place your not suppose to be judged and oddly enough it's the worst place for judgment. Summer did an excellent job with this book and I cannot wait to see what happens with the story.
Better - 5 stars
Better is the perfect name for this book... Cadence and Mark are now together and they are working on being the couple they are destined to be. Both are out of the church, not that Mark was ever a part of it, but Cadence has lost everything thanks to Gracie ratting her out to her parents. Cadence is living with Mark and attending college thanks to Mark. Ties have been severed, is it irreparable or is there a chance for them to be fixed?
What happens when Cadence finds out the secret Marks been hiding? Will it rip them apart? This book is all about being able to forgive and overcoming an 18 year old being with a 28 year old. Again there is the problem of being judge in the one place scrutiny should never be passed, because lets be honest here, Jesus died for you to not be judged for your mistakes. I absolutely adore Mark's mother and how she stands up for Cadence, and her parents never regain my favor for them, but in the end things work out. Better is a wonderful book and it makes me want to go relive my college days all over again.
I highly recommend this book series and S. Walden and give her a huge thumbs up for writing something that some people would judge instantly because of some of the content inside, but in all aspects its a great book and as a Christian it has me thinking a lot about things. Good job Summer!
