Sometimes rules must be broken.
Sometimes your beliefs are challenged.
Other times... you just have to follow your heart.
For Marine Corps Sgt. Alex Cruz, the Corps' rules and regulations have served as a blueprint for how he should live his life. In his mind, the way to maintaining proper conduct and order relied heavily on the ability of the individual to follow orders without question. Alex was that individual.
Pfc. Cassie Bennett.
She is brand new to the Corps, looking to cement a place in the world for herself after breaking free from the oppressive life she's lived with her mother. Making it in the Corps is her way of showing her mother that she is more than she thinks she is, while also proving to herself she can survive one of life's biggest challenges.
Both Alex and Cassie are tested when an intensely strong attraction develops between them. They feel it, they want it, but one thing stands in their way... The Marine Corps order on Fraternizing. Their lust filled thoughts, their strong and aching cravings for one another, and their conflicted minds lead them on a roller coaster of emotions and feelings that neither can ignore, no matter how hard they try.
Loyalties will be tested, hearts will be broken, and careers will hang in the balance. Can Alex and Cassie keep their forbidden relationship a secret, or will they lose it all by Fraternizing?
When I first decided to read this story I was a little worried about the military back ground, it isn't something that I am normally interested in, but from the start this story reeled me in, and kept me on my toes. We have Sergeant Alejandro Cruz or Alex for short who is an instructor at Twentynine and training more Marines to go out in the field. The story starts out at a bar celebrating Alex's big promotion coming, and his eyes catch a beautiful blonde at the bar having a good time, they share a few dances before trouble starts and Alex has to leave the bar to keep a friend from getting into trouble.
Then this is where the problems start, in formation the following Monday he sees the blonde girl from the night before, and who happens to be her instructor, none other than Alex. The Marine Corps has a very strict no fraternizing policy, but what happens when the pull towards someone is so strong and there is nothing you can do? If your Sgt. Cruz and Pfc. Bennett do you risk it all?
Let's talk characters, I was so excited to see that Cassie Bennett is a strong character, she is put through so much and comes out even stronger for it, she joins the marines to make a point and show her mother she is anything but weak after some mistakes that she has made. She has to go through so much once she gets here, a roommate who wanted Sgt. Cruz that night at the bar and then the attraction she has for her instructor that she isn't suppose to have because he is superior. She also has to deal with another marine that has a thing for Alex and then another PFC who is out to get her, he doesn't believe that woman should be in the marines and he takes it out on Cassie.
Then we have Sgt. Cruz, he is a strong character, an alpha male, one that tries and tries to stay away from Pfc. Bennett but the magnetism they both feel is slowly breaking him down. He is becoming protective of her and he will crush anyone that gets in his way. Alex has decided that he doesn't want to be a robot, just someone that goes with the rules in black and white he wants to see his world in color and if it weren't for Cassie he wouldn't have realized that was what he was doing. Will they be able to stay together through the secrets and lies?
This book does end on a cliffhanger so be ready for it. It's not so bad that I wouldn't recommend someone reading it, because overall its a great read.
I give this book 4.5 stars
Meet CindyFacebook/Goodreads/Amazon Just a book reading, writing loving, mommy and USMC wife! :) I love to write, even if it isn't what is conventional and makes everyone feel giddy inside. I usually pull from dreams, or ideas that just thrust themselves into my head. I have what some would describe as a dry sense of humor, and I think its conveyed in my writing. I like to think I am a kick ass chick, but I can also be sensitive. I'm learning to grow thick skin, and in this field, it is definitely needed! I won't put anything out that I am not absolutely proud of, but like E.L. James said, "I can't own people's reactions to it." Thanks for reading my work... I do appreciate it!
